About Spirit Wood Turning My name is Dale Sherman, and I am a woodturning artist. I began this work wanting to learn how to build custom furniture, but like so many other things in life, I was led down another path. In the midst of cabinetmaking courses, I took a basic bowlturning class from a local Master. Quite honestly, my world has not been the same since! I think Woodturning, I breath Woodturning, I often dream Woodturning.
I have trained with some of the finest turners and teachers in the craft, Rex Burningham, Pete Holtus and Lee Carter among them. I travel to take at least 1 training session a year. I'm that committed to this art, and honor those that have gone before. I am a member of the American Association of Woodturners, the Front Range Woodturners, and the Parker Artists Guild, one of the most dynamic Guilds in Colorado. In August of 2009, I was extremely honored to recieve the 1st Place Award for Fine Crafts at our Guild's "Art in the Park" Show, our biggest show of the year! I am very honored to have received this, as it's a validation of the growth I've experienced. Especially with my hand-casted pen blank mediums. My wife is also a full-time artist, mostly working in mixed media.
We do several Fine Arts and Crafts shows, and are getting more well-known locally for our work. The problem with shows is there aren't enough good ones, hence the website to fill out the periods between shows. If you need that special gift for that very special moment in your family's life, share that with me. I'll find it here for you or make it. I love custom work! Send me a piece of barn wood or flooring and I'll make a pen out of it. Have a piece of planking from an old boat you're rebuilding? Let me turn it into a memento you'll treasure forever.
I'm honored to have you here looking at my art!
Dale Sherman
